San Pedro Sula. In a demonstration of humanitarian reciprocity and commitment to human rights, the Government of Honduras through the National Institute for Migration (INM) Honduras has coordinated the reception, assistance and safe transfer of 365 Mexican citizens who have entered the national territory in recent weeks, after being deported from the United States.
This joint effort reflects bilateral cooperation ties, recognizing that Mexico also historically hosts thousands of migrants from Honduras in similar transit schemes.
For today Saturday the arrival of 31 Mexicans is expected and those who will be assisted according to the established protocols.
It is important to mention that the staff of the INM Honduras implements a protocol of care under a strict logistical order. The process starts with the arrival of the citizens to the International Airport Ramón Villeda Morales, San Pedro Sula, and his subsequent reception at the Centre of Attention to the Returning Migrant (CAMR) The Bureau.
Moreover, the citizens cared for were men and women over 18 years of age, i.e. no family units had arrived, and none had a criminal record.
Protocol on assistance and transfer route
Upon arrival, citizens receive immediate humanitarian assistance, ranging from food to timely medical care and full protection of their human rights.
Later, on the day of their reception, they are transfers to the offices of the Mexican Consulate, where they manage the official document necessary to present it when entering their country.
After completing the consular procedure, the group is taken to the Return Migrant Care Center, to spend the first night. At this Center, 26 Mexican citizens are currently waiting for the safe return process.
After each group completes the process of migration and coordination with the entities involved, the deployment to the west of Honduras specifically to the city of Ocotepeque At this point, citizens enter the local CAMR to rest a second night before embarking on the final leg of the trip.
International coordination and ongoing support
On the third day, the Honduran authorities definitively move citizens to the border with Guatemala with the aim of moving them to Tecún Umán, bordering Mexico.
All internal logistics, procedures and travel through the territory of Honduras are carried out under the permanent supervision of the personnel of Migration of Honduras.
The authorities also stressed direct and ongoing coordination with customs officials in the Guatemala ensuring that the entry and transit of Mexican citizens is carried out in an orderly, agile and secure manner until their final destination.
