Tegucigalpa The National Institute for Migration (INM) progress in strengthening the efficiency of migration services by reducing response times in the General Secretariat.

These processes, which previously took up to three months, are now resolved within a maximum period of two days.

This acceleration eliminates the administrative delay inherited and optimizes in a comprehensive way the care of foreign citizens within the national territory.

Upon assuming the current management, the General Secretariat faced a backlog of almost 3,800 cases, with applications accumulating up to two years of delay.

Through institutional reengineering, the entity has managed to resolve more than 70% of the documentary backlog.

This has boosted the management of migratory movements, legal status records and the issuance of official certifications directly at the current headquarters of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.

Other changes in process

The institutional modernization process also provides for the early implementation of the Comprehensive Migration System (SIM), which is designed to provide the services of the General Secretariat in the offices where the Passport and Aliens Offices currently operate.

In addition, the territorial coverage expansion plan assesses the opening of a new office of the General Secretariat in Roatán.

Among the main services provided by this unit are: Migration Movements, Special Permit for Stay and Miscellaneous Procedures.
